Hawthorne.

Portland is a great city for art of all kinds. Whether you're on the East or the West side of the Willamette, whether you're North or South of Burnside, there is art pretty much everywhere you look. Portland has become known for it's music scene though, as a myriad of musicians have either started out their career here or have transferred to the city and now call it their home. Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse is currently living in Portland, and The Shins made the move from Albuquerque to Portland in 2001 and has been calling it home since then. Starfucker first got their start in the city by playing at house shows in and around Portland. There are a list of other artists who also call or have called Portland their home, such as: The Decemberists, The Dandy Warhols, Talkdemonic, M. Ward, Built To Spill, The Helio Sequence, Elliot Smith (RIP), Viva Voce, The Thermals, Deloreon, Menomena and of course, Everclear. And that's just naming a few that are worth mentioning. So you can say that Portland is a rather cultured city when it comes to music. Now when I was walking down Hawthorne a couple weeks ago, I heard the sound of some music coming from across the street. So, naturally, I walked over to see what it was. When I got across the street I saw a young man and a young woman creating beautiful music with a cello, a voice and a microphone. It was raw and powerful. I was very happy to have stumbled onto it. I pulled out my camera and I started to record it because I knew that I had to share something so lovely. The two gave me their names, the woman with the soulful voice was Cherita Meadows and the man getting down with the cello was Martin Watkinson and they go by the name of Gaea. Enjoy.
