Hawthorne.

Portland is a great city for art of all kinds. Whether you're on the East or the West side of the Willamette, whether you're North or South of Burnside, there is art pretty much everywhere you look. Portland has become known for it's music scene though, as a myriad of musicians have either started out their career here or have transferred to the city and now call it their home. Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse is currently living in Portland, and The Shins made the move from Albuquerque to Portland in 2001 and has been calling it home since then. Starfucker first got their start in the city by playing at house shows in and around Portland. There are a list of other artists who also call or have called Portland their home, such as: The Decemberists, The Dandy Warhols, Talkdemonic, M. Ward, Built To Spill, The Helio Sequence, Elliot Smith (RIP), Viva Voce, The Thermals, Deloreon, Menomena and of course, Everclear. And that's just naming a few that are worth mentioning. So you can say that Portland is a rather cultured city when it comes to music. Now when I was walking down Hawthorne a couple weeks ago, I heard the sound of some music coming from across the street. So, naturally, I walked over to see what it was. When I got across the street I saw a young man and a young woman creating beautiful music with a cello, a voice and a microphone. It was raw and powerful. I was very happy to have stumbled onto it. I pulled out my camera and I started to record it because I knew that I had to share something so lovely. The two gave me their names, the woman with the soulful voice was Cherita Meadows and the man getting down with the cello was Martin Watkinson and they go by the name of Gaea. Enjoy.

I Need To Start Making Music Videos.

Bitches love music videos. I think these next two videos will make you agree that, you too, should get into the video making scene. I mean, seriously. Imagine kickin' it with these girls AND getting paid to look at them all day. I'm sold.

Big Boi has a new track out there. It's good stuff. It features Theophilus London and Tre Luce who all would like to view some ladies' private parts, if you would just let them. My only problem with it is that Andre 3000 isn't on it. It has been a minute since him and Big Boi have collaborated and it's just not right. Not to take away from Big Boi and the others on this track, but a brotha be missin' Andre 3 Stacks. But I know you are itching with anticipation to hear the track, so without further adieu, I present to you "She Said OK."

Some Overseas Shit.

Two days ago, while bouncing around Youtube and Bancamp for music, I had the pleasure of stumbling onto a band by the name of Poétique Électronique. P.E. is comprised of Ben Auris, who is a lovely artist coming out of Vienna, Austria and Paris, France along with Moritz Gaudlitz, a house/techno producer best known for his DJ colation, Die Electrophilen. The musical meshing of these two remind me of The XX, if I had to make a comparison. Which is awesome, because I'm a big fan of The XX and am anticipating their sophomore album Coexist, which is slated for release on September 11, 2012. But I digress, back to who the post is about. The first song, Deep Inside My Pocket, off of P.E.'s EP entitled The Paris Session, pulled me in with one listen. It didn't take a minute before I was hooked. What these two pull off is really something quite lovely. Catchy guitar riffs and soothing vocals will have you ready to hit the replay button before the song reaches it's final stretch. The entire EP is worth a listen and frankly, worth picking up off of Bandcamp. At the very least though, I suggest you give the album a run through, you will regret it otherwise. That is a fact.

Portland, Oregon, the 29th most populous city in the U.S. according to the 2010 census, is a fantastic city. I love it to death. I'm completely content with just walking around the city and enjoying everything it's surroundings has to offer. Here are some pictures that I've taken with my phone and have posted to Instagram while wandering around the wonderful city of Portland..

Tupac (take one of many).

"I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I
will spark the brain that will change the world." - Tupac Shakur

Anyone who knows me, knows one thing. I love Tupac. From the first day my mother gave me my first 2pac CD back in the day, I felt a strong connection with the man, as he quickly became my absolute favorite artist. He was so much more than just a rapper, he was a true visionary. Believe it or not, I owe my high respect for women not only to my mother but to him as well. RIP Tupac Amaru Shakur, you will forever be mourned.
